In 2014, the subjects of the film, Edwyn Collins and Grace Maxwell, met with So Film UK to discuss the experience of working with directors Hall and Lovelace, and seeing the film for the first time:
Edwyn: It’s quite arty isn’t it? It’s film as opposed to television. The guys were quite unsure about how the film would progress, we were hesitating and all of that shit. But by the end of the film we were communicating about life and work.
Grace: We met three and a half years ago now. We got into it with them, and we did all the recorded voice-only interviews, not shooting a foot of film. They were still looking for funding then. But the recordings gave the film a shape, and the ideas. But we thought ‘it’s their film, let them get on with it’.
Edwyn: We didn’t see the film until about 2 weeks before it went to SXSW. Sitting in the screening in Soho, afterwards I said ‘So far, so good, lads!’ and they’d actually finished it!
